The draw ceremony in the summer villa of the Roman emperor

Everything is ready for the group draw ceremony of the 35th European Water Polo Championships which will take place on Saturday, 23 April in Split. The draw will be broadcast on Croatian Television (HTV) from 20:05hrs (CET), on the unique group draw stage. The heart of the city of Split – the Peristil or the ancient city centre. The stage will be located under the arch of the central part of the ‘lobby’, in the place where Emperor Diocletian performed during the Roman Empire and where he built his summer villa (305 BC) around which the city of Split developed over time. Such an ancient, historical stage has rarely been at the service of water polo.

In front of the stage, there will be an auditorium with more than 200 seats for special guests from the social and sports life of Croatia and Europe.

– We have the strength and the will to organise the European Championships in Split in the best possible way. The Board of the Croatian Water Polo Federation consists of extremely qualified and capable people who, together with our sponsors, have made themselves available to the maximum, so that together we can best meet all the demands that await us in the next five months. – said the Executive Director of the Organising Committee of the 2022 European Water Polo Championships in Split and Secretary-General of the Croatian Water Polo Federation, Renato Živković.

As we have already mentioned, the group draw will be broadcast on HTV 1. – We can expect a dynamic entertainment programme, attractive images, and of course, the views of Split, which we hope will be an excellent advertisement for Croatia in the world – said the director of the event, Helena Petković.

Renato Živković added:

– The Croatian Water Polo Federation has already proven to be an excellent organiser in a number of flawlessly executed major sports competitions. We especially remember the excellent organisation of the European Championships in Zagreb in 2010, when we deservedly won two gold medals. The players in the pool as the best national team, but also the Croatian Water Polo Federation as an excellent organiser!
