Roko – Mascot of the 2022 European Championships

On Saturday, 23 April, the best water polo teams of the Old Continent found out who their rivals are at the 35th European Water Polo Championships in Split (27 August – 10 September 2022). But on this occasion, all of Europe also had the chance to meet someone else. Roko introduced himself to the public for the first time that evening. Who is Roko? He is the mascot of the 35th European Water Polo Championships in Split in 2022, but he is much more than that. Roko is for the less informed, the “Dalmatian seagull”.

He has nothing to do with the bird that makes its daily home on the coast and in all places along the coast. In Split or Dalmatia, the term “seagull” refers to a local man who is willing to provide good humour, keep company and, especially, entertain female guests in a nice way during the summer months. No matter who they are or where they come from. His unmistakable charm is based on the obligatory sunglasses, a gold chain around his neck, often a moustache as a masculine adornment on his face, and a striped T-shirt. A funny and smiling local guy. In fact, he is quite common in more or less all Mediterranean countries. All in all, a likeable appearance with whom you will never experience anything embarrassing.

The days are getting warmer, the sun is getting stronger and summer is not far away. Water polo and Split 2022 are waiting for you, and of course – Roko!
