LEN’s President Message to the organisers of the 2022 European Water Polo Championships

As President of the European Aquatics Association, LEN, it gives me great pleasure to write this message on the occasion of the latest edition of the LEN European Water Polo Championships.

This event has a proud history within our association with 34 editions already completed, and I want to underline the importance of the discipline of water polo to the sport as a whole.

I have just returned from a trip across Europe with the President of FINA, Mr. Husain Al Musallam where we met representatives of 20 National Federations in 12 countries, and one of the common themes of our discussions was how to popularise the sport of water polo.

Of course, my friends in Croatia are already amongst the top nations for the sport and have put imagination and energy into organising what looks set to be an excellent edition of the European Championships in Split. Not only will Croatia’s team be highly competitive but I am fully expecting a passionate, packed crowd at the wonderful Spaladium Arena to create the right atmosphere for the players.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank my friend and Vice President, Mr. Josip Vardovic. He has not only worked selflessly on behalf of LEN in recent times, but has also activated the full support of the sport and political authorities in his native Croatia to host this event in the best possible conditions. I would like to warmly thank all the sport bodies, political authorities and sponsor partners who are committed to making the championships a success.

I look forward to joining you all in Split from August 27 to September 10!.

Thank you very much

Antonio Silva

LEN President
