The place to truly experience Water Polo

The place where the coronation of the new European King and Queen in water polo will take place, i.e. the arena where we will welcome the new best water polo teams of the Old Continent on 9 and 10 September 2022. It is the Spaladium Arena, the venue of the 35th European Water Polo Championship in Split.

Spaladium Arena is one of the newer and second largest sports halls in Croatia. It is a multi-purpose hall in Split that was opened on 27 December 2008 on the occasion of the Handball World Championship, which Croatia hosted in January 2009. The Spaladium Arena has a capacity of 12,339 spectators, but thanks to its flexible configuration it can be adapted for different purposes and events, reducing the capacity of the auditorium to 1,246. Of course, this depends on what kind of show or event it is. When it comes to water polo and the 2022 European Championships, the capacity of the hall is 9,000.

Spaladium Arena, located in the wider perimeter of the Split city centre, has been the venue of several major sports competitions (World Handball Championship 2009, International High Jump Meeting 2009, European Handball Championship 2018, Pre-Olympic Basketball Qualifying Tournament 2021…).

Apart from sports, the Spaladium Arena has also been the venue for numerous concerts by Croatian and foreign artists, public meetings, entertainment events such as the performance of Cirque de Soleil in 2022, international fairs, but also a place where citizens were vaccinated in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic.

The Spaladium Arena also includes a small hall with a capacity of 1,000 spectators, suitable for various sports such as football, basketball, handball, volleyball, and gymnastics. The Spaladium Arena also has its own fitness centre.

The Spaladium Arena will now host water polo and the best Europeans in this sport under its roof for the first time. It is also the first time in Croatia that swimming pools for an international sports competition will be installed in a large, already built sports hall.
